Bayang Sofea by Teme Abdullah was a tense and emotionally layered novel that masterfully combined suspense, corporate intrigue, and psychological drama. The story follows Sofea, a promising management trainee at RICE, whose rapid success hides a dark secret tied to a dangerous organization. I was deeply engaged by her internal conflict—torn between protecting her loved ones and freeing herself from a haunting past. Danny’s reappearance as a world-class boxer and someone from her childhood added emotional weight and a strong support system that contrasted well with the pressure surrounding her. The pacing was sharp, and the narrative carried a constant sense of unease, especially through the dream sequences and hidden threats. Although a few plot points felt a little over-dramatized, the ending left a strong impression with its subtle ambiguity. Overall, Bayang Sofea is a gripping and thought-provoking read that explores fear, guilt, and redemption with real emotional depth.
